Whistlepig 10 Year Small Batch Rye

I was considering drinking it out of the sample bottle as due to our kitchen and dining area being torn apart I couldn't find a glass. I went rummaging through stored stuff and found one and away I went. It was definitely worth paying respect to the dram by serving it right, tasting straight and adding water and retrying. I wouldn't say i'm a huge fan of the profile these days preferring scotch style whisky but this is a rye done well. Nice spicey earthy notes, well balanced and handles water very well in fact even with liberal watering i couldn't really tell the difference. It seems to handle a wide abv range well.

@WhiskeyLonghorn Yeah I have a sample of the 12 year non rye so will be very interested to see how I like that. My preference these days is definitely Scotch, Irish leading the pack, Other world whiskey excl rye, Gin (amazingly as I hated it for decades!), bourbon (select profiles only), cognac, rye whiskey, armagnac
@PBMichiganWolverine Ah I read an article on him but it didn't paint him in an unflattering light from memory but then those types of whiskey interviews/pieces rarely do I guess. All I remember now is their pricing was is stupid!
@PBMichiganWolverine that’s the one.
@Jan-Kaselitz definately! In fact, that reminds me, there was a video of an interview that the Dalmore master distiller ( forget his name) did with a female reporter. Was creepy as hell. The expressions on that poor reporter were priceless, “ who did I piss off to be interviewing THIS guy???”
@PBMichiganWolverine You are talking about the “Dalmore Effect” aren’t you ;)
I had the same opinion of this dram. Quality, well made stuff, but not suited for my palate at this time.
@Soba45 I think I’ve come to terms that my dislike for Whistlepig isn’t because they don’t bottle good stuff. I think it’s b/c I can’t stand Raj Batra ( Whistlepig owner), from the one and only season of Apprentice that I saw
