On any other day it'd be a 4.5 easybut coming after the Glengoyne 25 which has really got under my skin in a good way (man the richness and spice spice spice), this is a great dram however it's more oily toffee forward flavour and did i mention i do miss that spice. 4.25 is probably not doing it justice so I'll rate it a 4.25 to 4.5..but maybe that Glengoyne 25 should have been higher...hmmm.

@Soba45 sounds like you had a very good night! You’re right, they’re all quality drams. It’s just a damn good and consistent core range, much like Ardbeg, where he special editions are good, but not exponentially detached from their core. I just bought another bottle of the GD 12 the other day. It’s just so drinkable and tasty! Thinking about getting another 18 soon too. I’m about halfway through my 2017 bottling, but there’s still a few early 2019 bottlings on the shelf at my local store and based on internet consensus I’m fairly certain that there’s still older juice in there. PLUS, the Parliament is still going to have much older stock in it until at least 2023 now, making some of its components around 26-27 years old eventually!
@WhiskeyLonghorn Yes when I look at my scoring I give the 18 and 20 both 4.5s. The highest single casks or in fact any GD bar the old 15 has been 4.5. I currently have small samples of the old 15, 18 and 21 side by side. Slight edge to the old 15 which is really 4.5+ .25 for sentiment, and oddly I think I'm switching to your viewpoint after several years I'm really enjoying the balance of the 21 and tonight have it on par with the 18. I think i come to a point where with a certain distillery which has a number of high rated drams it's extremely margin in terms of additional preference, where as price wise there is complete detachment from reality for certain offerings i.e in this case single casks. Single casks from GD can be awesome but if the 18 and 21 are 4.25 to 4.5 range, the best single casks are more 4.5 - 4.75 but never the mythical - in my rating - solid 4.75. Personally I'd buy a Glengoyne 25 over any single GD cask given it would be cheaper and with that pure spice to the max profile (which i LOVE sherried whisky or not) it adds an extra unique dimension to the overall sherried whiskey experience. The 21 Glengoyne I really liked and bought a bottle of however it was more 4.25 territory. Every other Glengoyne I've had has been rubbish. Do not waste money on anything lower than 21, it's not a distillery like Glendronach where even the 12 and new 15 are very decent drams!
@jonwilkinson7309 The few times I've had them together I preferred the 18 which is pure olorosso. However on a recent 3 way between the old 15 year revival the new and the 18 I think i preferred them in that order. But preferences can vary on the day.
@jonwilkinson7309 interesting question. I love both, but you’re right, they’re different. For my palate I prefer Parliament a bit more. It has that “old library” note I love in Allardice, but with the deep sweetness from the PX casks.
@WhiskeyLonghorn. What do you prefer - the Parliament or the Allardice? I got miniatures of both and compared them side by side. Different whiskeys, and both were great. Adding price as a factor, I'd definitely go with the Allardice.
@WhiskeyLonghorn Yes while I place a premium on whiskies I really enjoy i.e. I'd rather have 1 bottle of a great whiskey than a couple of merely a good ones, overtime I have found that whilst there is a strong correlation between price and how I rate whiskey you can get truely great drams at reasonable prices and it's those that I think are really worth focusing on most of the time.
@Soba45 good info thanks. I already paid US $250 for Parliament. Those single casks are tempting, but that much $$ could buy a lot of other whisky.
@WhiskeyLonghorn Generally very good. My scores have been 4.5 x 3, 4.25 x 3, 4 and 3.25. However the pricing is now detached from reality for the 20 year + age statements. I can get a 15 yr for $80USD, 18 year for $120 whereas the 20 year pluses are now usually around $400USD. While the best of the single casks are better than the 15 and 18 its not by a lot and they are 3 to 5 times the price. Even the single cask 12 years cost more which is stupid given the 18 up till now recently has been nearly 24 years old minimum. I you get a chance to try then do so but I wouldn't and have never actually got a bottle.
@PBMichiganWolverine I wouldn't say that and I'd need to work through a bottle to confirm but more like highly certain it would be in the top 3 or 4 % i.e. 30 to 40. I LOVE European oak and the spiciness so that definitely helped.
What’s your opinion on these single casks? I belong to a GD group on Facebook and a lot of the members usually flex with pictures of their single cask bottlings and I’m over here slumming it with Allardice.
Was the Glengoyne one of your top 10 all time ?
