I really like the 12 year and this has a lot in common. That said the 12 is far superior imo. Poured neat, nose is citrus and smoke with some decent tang to it. There is good malt and wood notes as well. Palate is more malt with light sherried smoke, barrel and mild spice. It does have the HP rubbery resin vibe with sweaty funk like the 12 but its restricted imo. I guess that makes sense as they dont want this to outshine the 12. Finish is good and long with the smoky citrus, malt, wood and char carrying on. Flavors are not very deep but are rich enough to keep interest. This is a good solid scotch but comes down to price when comparing to the 12 year. If its within $10 the 12 is the clear winner for me. If the gap widens this becomes much more intriguing.....86/100

@Benji-Robert Thanks for the note about the effect of air + time. I tried this in a bar, but I still much preferred the 12y. You're absolutely right though that the 12 just seems to get more and more expensive.
I liked this one better after it had been opened a few times. the malt/biscuit note wasnt as pronounced but it was A LOT easier to discern/enjoy after time. the 12 is def better but I could see this as a great beginner budget scotch. that darn 12y seems to get more expensive all the time.
