Slainte-Mhath
Teeling Single Malt Irish Whiskey
Single Malt — Ireland

'Dare to be different' is what they aim for at Teeling, and in that they have succeeded. Using casks from Cooley distillery, they give their single malt a craft presentation which is unusual for Irish whiskey. On the nose, grainy and floral notes combine with lemon oil, honeydew melon and a touch of ginger. The palate features green apples, shortbread and aniseed, followed by white pepper, sour citrus fruits and herbaceous bitterness. Hints of vanilla, oak spices and lingering freshness remain in the medium finish. A malt with character despite its young age.

@1901 and @cascode Now you really made me curious to give this Single Grain a try! Thanks for sharing your experience. I just noticed that I actually have a bottle of the Small Batch in my stash... You should really stop buying more bottles when you cannot even remember what you have!
@Slainte-Mhath same as @cascode. I’ve had all three and prefer the single grain. I’ve seen the small batch pick up a lot of praise for its price but I’m not particularly a fan of rum finishes.
@cascode Interesting! I really got into grain whisky this year, and I just opened a bottle of Compass Box Hedonism. Although not overly complex, I really enjoy it. Might give the Teeling Single Grain a try as well!
@Slainte-Mhath Yes I've had both - and this one. I'd rate them all around 3-3.5 My favourite of the lot was the single grain, which I thought was fine for a reasonably priced core-range grain whiskey. The grain isn't up there with anything ancient, good and Scottish but it's a reasonable alternative to, say, Hedonism. Not quite on a par with Nikka Coffey Grain, but also almost half the price out here.
Has anyone tasted the Small Batch or Single Grain expression from Teeling? Any thoughts?
Additional information: This review is for Teeling Single Malt bottled in 02/2016.
Additional information: The Teeling Whisky Company has built its own distillery in Dublin in 2015. When John Teeling sold Cooley distillery to Beam, he kept a stock of 16,000 casks which is used in this Single Malt. Five different wine finishes were combined in this expression (Sherry, Port, Madeira, White Burgundy and Cabernet Sauvignon).
