Barrell Dovetail (122.9 Proof)
Blended American Whiskey — (bottled in) Kentucky, USA

Nose is sweet and fruity with baking spices, caramel, orange marmalade and cherry notes. Palate is viscous with the same notes, a little hot. Finish is long and warming.
A splash of water brought it into perfect harmony for me.
This is a fantastic whiskey. Only had a 50 ml sample and will have to seek out a bottle.

Thanks for the feedback, guys - this sounds tempting but I think I'll hold off until I can find pour or a taste at an event. Cheers.
@cascode I feel the $90 US I paid was fair - great foray into barrel finishing for a bourbon drinker but I’m afraid it would disappoint a scotch aficionado at that price
@cascode it’s pricey, but unlike the Armida which is a 50/50 chance of love it / hate it, this is 99% chance of love it.
@PBMichiganWolverine Not as such - I mean there's no shop I know that would crack this open for a taste. However that said, the importers in Melbourne do often provide tasting events through my favourite outlet in Sydney (most of the tastings I go to are there) so it's not impossible it might turn up on the flight some time. The lst time I paid this sort of money for a bourbon was one of the Woodford Reserve Master's Collection bottlings, and that was based on a tasting at that outlet, so who knows :)
@ContemplativeFox yeah I loved it—-was actually right up there for me with the new Armida
@cascode wow...it’s unique, but that’s pricey!!! Can they give you a taste before purchase ?
This has literally just arrived out here today - got the email a couple of hours ago. AUS$229 = US$170 at current rates. Worth it?
I keep hearing good things about the dovetail in particular @Ctrexman :)
I have to grab one of these Barrell offerings everyone seems to love them
