Slainte-Mhath
Ardbeg Uigeadail
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland

Most of today's NAS whiskies I wouldn't touch with a barge pole, but this old classic belongs to the few notable exceptions. The nose of Ardbeg Uigeadail takes you straight to the windswept shores of Islay, featuring seashells, brine and iodine. Peat smoke, tobacco and sweet bacon emerge, followed by band-aid, black olives and aniseed. Warming and spicy at first, the taste is intensely phenolic and earthy with notes of walnuts, honey and bitter oak. Ashy peatiness, burned toast and salty licorice mark the long finish. Wee beastie beware, papa is coming!

@Slainte-Mhath - Thank you! Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to you as well, and everyone else here at Distiller. Let’s hope for happier and healthier days ahead. Cheers! 🙂🥃🥃
@Slainte-Mhath merry Christmas my friend!! hope you have a nice 2021!
@Slainte-Mhath Thank you, good sir. Merry Christmas and.... Slàinte Mhath!
Thanks for the kind comments @Jan-Case! I will still post here; as I live Distiller, but I tend to do them in mass batches.
@Slainte-Mhath definitely give me a holler when you are around. Also if you can you should think about @Telex offer - his YouTube live stream is great - I never made it to the live stream but always watch it the next day. Good stuff but sad @Telex that you don’t post reviews here anymore ;)
@Slainte-Mhath Merry xmas mate :-)
Merry Christmas everyone! Check out my YouTube channel if you haven’t already. Doing a bottle kill live show Tuesday night. Might go earlier than 9pm eastern at 8, if possible. Might invite some folks to come on live as well. Send me an email if you’re up for an invite. Telex at outlook dot com. See ya hopefully.
Thank you @Slainte-Mhath :) A merry Christmas to you and yours as well - and a happy holiday season to everyone on Distiller!
@Jan-Case I have family in Berlin, so in non-COVID times I am there for a visit at least two times each year. Would be fun to meet for a dram or two!
My personal Ardbeg ranking: Ardbeg Uigeadail (89 pts) > Ardbeg Ten (88 pts) > Ardbeg Wee Beastie (86 pts) > Ardbeg Corryvreckan (85 pts). The special releases are way to expensive for what they are, so I'd focus on Ardbeg Ten and Uigeadail.
@Slainte-Mhath thanks mate. You as well as actually everyone you mentioned helped me a lot keeping my sanity over this otherwise abysmal year. The @Distiller community provided me with a lot of welcoming distraction, entertainment and information, that allowed me to learn a lot about whisky and even myself. Thanks everyone. I am going to open some fantastic bottles I collected in the last months over the holidays and New Years, which I emotionally can dedicate to the guidance I got from a lot you fine gentlemen and -women. Here is to a much better year 2021. Maybe @Distiller somehow manages to make meetups possible like other whisky societies do regularly. When all this lockdown and distancing stuff is behind us, we (myself, my girlfriend and 3y old son) are going to travel a lot. Scotland will be the first destination but next to that I would gladly travel to all kind of places to meet up with some of you Europeans (for now). Also if anyone of you makes his way to Berlin - I know a couple of fantastic whisky bars and shops around town and we also do tastings in a park near city center every once in a while with a handful of friends.
@Slainte-Mhath cheers to you and Merry Christmas to you and your family!
An excellent choice to drink for the holidays. Cheers to you and yours. Glad you survived the 'rona, and here's to many more fine drams!
@Slainte-Mhath Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! ...and when you drink, drink to a better 2021 worldwide.
@Slainte-Mhath A merrier Christmas and holiday to you and all. Wishing for all of us a safe and expedited pandemic elimination so can once again be “whole” once more.
@Slainte-Mhath Thanks, mate, and thanks for all your contributions to Distiller. Have a great Christmas season and let's hope that 2021 is a whole NEW year! Cheers!
@Slainte-Mhath God Jul to you and yours too.
@Slainte-Mhath and a Merry Christmas to you as well! Next year will hopefully bring back a sense of normalcy to this crazy Covid world

Disclaimer: My review is for Ardbeg Uigeadial bottled in 2016 (bottle code L65983), rumor has it that recent bottlings were of inferior quality.
Additional information: Named after Loch Uigeadail, this core range expression was matured in first- and second-fill bourbon casks and Oloroso sherry butts.
