Sipping neat from an old fashioned glass. Didn’t rest it because who has time for that in short span between putting kids to bed and going to sleep myself? On the nose I get the coffee, faint vanilla bean, and a whiff of ethanol. Maybe even some of the candied nuts that pervade the mall come Christmas time. It’s sweet, and peaty, and woody. It’s woodsy and peaty and sort of harsh on the pallet. Maybe a little brown sugar. The finish lasts a good while. No Kentucky Hug, per se, but a nice lingering tingle of wood, peat, and something reminiscent of over ripened pear.

Found this in the cupboard. Here goes for a 2:30 tasting on a Friday... N: frosted sugar cookie, little ethanol, maybe some black licorice and peat. the nose isn’t too bad, it’s actually quite enjoyable the way it’s sweet and earthy simultaneously. P: peat, lots of peat. and licorice. and maybe some burnt sugar cookie if I dig and believe. it’s overall pretty rough and not at all pleasant. F: the initial finish is a gross peaty burn. but as it lingers on the tongue it softens and is less harsh and horrible, I might even call it pleasant.

Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 7, 2021 (edited March 2, 2021)Had to add a few drops of water to open this up to enjoy it. After that, got the vanilla and spearmint on the nose. That and the pine on the pallet. The finish lingers a good long while. Sort of turns to toothpaste though. -
Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 27, 2020 (edited January 3, 2021)Brown sugar, caramel/ burnt sugar, vanilla frosting and just a little ethanol on the nose. Maybe some anise? It’s sweet. Soft skinned fruit (pear) and spice on the palate. Cinnamon and banana nerds? Total mouth coating finish that lingers for a full minute. Overall, not super complex - it goes from sweet and delicate to spicy and punchy, but it’s really, really good. -
