Tastes

If you aren't prepared for what is about to happen to you, you will most likely be blown away by the nose of this beast. The first smell of Laphroaig is intensely smokey, bandage and iodine. However linger on the nose for a while and all those aggressive notes tend to mellow and fade into a wonderful boquet of honey and sweet malt. The honey hits me initially on the front of the palate, but it's quickly met by a blast of brine and smoke flavors through the mid palate. On the back of the palate you get a small note of spice. The whisky lingers after you've finished coating the palate with smoke and iodine flavors. Adding several drops of water *really* mellows this one out. The nose loses a lot of the aggressiveness you get initially. Vanilla makes an apperance and the honey and malt really stand out along with some fruity and floral notes.
