Old Ezra 7 Year Barrel Strength Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 2, 2020 (edited July 14, 2020)Drinking this neat. First pour. Found a solid supply of this bottle at my go to store on delivery day. I need to connect more with the owner at this store because he is truly doing the neighborhood a service with some his pickups. I was looking for a solid kick off to the 4th and damn did I pick a firecracker. It starts off mid range with immediate notes of plum trailing to the lighter end of apple. There is good oak mixed with charred wood and vanilla. I was picking up a bit of licorice sugar but it’s a stretch. Definitely feel there is an overall nuttiness that wraps it all together. There is also some brininess with perhaps an ever so slight amount of lemon citrus. Mouth is a great butteriness and the finish brings again tastes of caramel apple. Good warmth overall which I don’t mind but this is drinking much higher so I’d recommend starting with this one in a tasting. I loved the increased complexity here for only being a 7 year. You’re getting a ton of value out of this bottle, very impressed. Can wait to add this to my tasting lineups! Cheers! -
Drinking this neat. It’s been hard to find Weller in Portland, Oregon so I thought I give my review after finally restocking. I expect none of this will come as a surprise. This is a first pour tasting note. Starts as expect with the apple and heavy hits of honey sweetness. I get creme brûlée with the vanilla coming through and a subtle milk chocolate. The pallet brings out more of the apple but more baked this time with spices. Longer burn but not too hot. Will take my time with the rest of the bottle anticipating that it’ll be some time before I’ll find it again.. but who knows with all the bars shut down, I may get lucky.

Bull Run American Whiskey 12 Year Pinot Noir Finish
Bourbon — Indiana, USA
Reviewed June 19, 2020 (edited August 3, 2020)Drinking this neat. Okay, so I bought this bottle last year before I knew anything much about bourbon makers and collector bottles and pretty much instantly wrote it off. It was an impulse buy at the time but little did I know a year later what was sitting on my shelf. When I realize I had 12 yr MGP, I got pretty excited to try it again! But alas, even though my knowledge changed, my pallet stayed true. The finish in Pinot noir barrels did something to the 12 yr, but I’ll do my best to sum it up. You get the caramel, vanilla, and oak as you might expect with MGP, however the oak is over powering. Finish is weaker than expect but the saving grace is a nice tobacco tone. What I’m not a huge fan of is the oak and there is an artificial flavor in there that comes off like fungus which doesn’t jive right for the aforementioned profile.. may be more a personal preference. Product of the finish? Probably. It was a fun buy and an even more fun story when my Cousin saw this sitting on my shelf. I told him I’d save the rest for him. -
