$56. ABV 40% Glenfiddich 12 I have had this decanted for at least 6 years. I have twice topped it up, but I would say the last time was at least 3 years ago. This was my first scotch, the scotch that started it for me. For scotch beginners, you got to start somewhere. And cheap would be the way to go, as spending double the price of this for something delicious would seem wasted on a palate uninitiated to whisky neat. And as affordable scotch goes, you have to source out the good ones. So this is that, and is why it is considered a whisky with open arms at the gate. Personally though, when having my Glenfiddich 12 right out the gate, I'm just over whelmed with the early alcohol "scotch" burn. I don't know why you would ever use this to start off the night or to begin a whisky journey. However, I recently had a decent single barrel Tennessee whiskey that is a regular in my glassware, and right after I then poured a dram of my house Glenfiddich, and goddamn did I love it again! The flavours moved along and rolled through, I smiled because damn boy, that's why I love scotch! Twice as good was all I was thinking, scotch still rules. NOTES As I nose it now, I first am hit with a subtle black liquorice. The alcohol smell, I'm going to call a standard cliché scotch smell, obvious vanilla and oak. Spice. I don't have a clue about oxidizing and how much time effects this stuff, but here goes into my mouth. Alcohol burns first, like the young you, would think scotch is supposed to. Once attuned, the classic oak and vanilla and spice again hit. When I drink this I always get a mild tarty green apple at the end. This finishes dry. MY SCORES Classification- oak, non-peat, non-sherried single malt- 7/10 Price Score- 9/10 Amongst others, a peated scotch, a sherried scotch and a straight oak scotch should always be stocked in your home. The Glenfiddich 12 is one I will always have for you to taste at my place. 01/09/17
