Balvenie Portwood 21 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed July 4, 2020 (edited October 6, 2021)It’s pleasant, but definitely missing the wow factor that the price would suggest it would have. -
GlenDronach Revival 15 Year (2009-2015)
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed June 13, 2020 (edited June 27, 2020)When on the nose I feel like I’m in a Manor House library with lots of old leather books, but plenty of lovely creaminess. The most amazing thing here is the finish. Out if nowhere comes this amazing long dry sherry. It’s subtle on the palette but once you’ve swallowed it.......wow 🥃 -
This is the marmite of Whisky. You either love it or hate it. I love it. Absolutely love this. Think a clinical, hospital environment on the nose, maybe some plasters and iodine. Then the power of the sea is in the background but keep on the nose and I find creamy toffee notes and salted caramel. A real dirty peat which Laphroaig is famed for, unlike some other sweet peats that can come from Islay. If I’m having a couple of drams, I sometimes like to start with the laphraoig 10 before going for something sweet afterwards. It completely opens your inner sense of smell and taste. Delightful! 🥃

Quite a mild nose to this drop, some soft subtle vanilla and coconut. Struggling to get the palette here because I’ve just smashed some Lindt 90% dark chocolate before this (they don’t work well together) and there is a harsh spice left. The texture is smooth and oily however and the finish is long and pleasant. Very warming. I’d imagine this being a lovely one for a cold winters evening sat by a fire 🔥

Pike Creek 10 Year Rum Barrel Finish
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed June 4, 2020 (edited June 6, 2020)The first thing to notice is the colour. Wow. A rich deep tone. On the nose I get orange marmalade and vanilla. The palate for me are dark fruits, figs, Lots of purple flavours and then a short finish where the ex bourbon cask is found. Nothing not to like about this whisky, but not much to love. Pleasant, but will never set the world on fire
