1792 Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 22, 2019 (edited April 16, 2020)Wanted to try this private single barrel bottled in bond version from Sprayberry bottle shop the night after I tried the single barrel version. I don't think this is as good of a barrel as the one I had last night. Much more of an oak smell than the vanilla I got last night. More alcohol smell and taste. I don't think it's due to the proof that is only 1.4 higher. It tastes less aged than the regular. Neat it had an almost bitter aftertaste. That went away with ice. Still not much body, complex flavors or finish. This felt like a cheaper mixer bourbon. -
This was a private barrel from Olde Crabapple bottle shop. My first thought when trying this bourbon was that it was lighter in color. After a google search I found out that this is aged in a char 3 barrel where the majority of bourbons I drink are char 4. Something else for me to learn about :). This is a very good smelling bourbon with a fruity, floral smell. Smooth, vanilla notes with just a slight burn. Not as much body or syrupy feel as I’d prefer. Good for the price. Would like to try this with some more aging.

Knob Creek Single Barrel Select Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 20, 2019 (edited January 18, 2022)So this is a very cool bottle of knob creek. 14 year aged barrel from sprayberry bottle shop. Barrel 8013 warehouse L floor 5 rack 21 tier 1. Barreled on 10/14/04 and selected on 10/18/18. 120 proof. Excellent smells of oak, vanilla and caramel. At 120 proof this needs ice to mellow. This bourbon has a great body and you feel like you want to chew it syrupy thick bodies caramel goodness. A slight pepper finish on the exhale with just a slight burn. This is a very vey good bourbon. Wish it was not one per person!Sprayberry Bottle Shop -
Isaac Bowman Straight Bourbon Finished in Port Barrels
Bourbon — Virginia, USA
Reviewed April 20, 2019Basil Hayden dark rye started me on a port finished bourbons. You immediately smell the fruit from the port. You also smell the alcohol a bit more than I’d prefer. Neat there is some burn that hurts the tasting. Adding ice dilutes the alcohol smell but there is still a burn on the swallow. There is a nice smooth body to this whiskey. I can get a small taste of caramel but a lot of spicy. I do not taste the fruit you smell. Overall a bit more burn and spicy than I’d prefer and not the best aftertaste.
