    Berries, vanilla, and a hint of leather on the nose. Taste adds a corn pop with cinnamon on the back end. Oily long finish with a touch of dark fruit. Pleasant sipper. Solidly consistent product.

    Bar pour on the rocks at the ballpark. Bold peanut and apple nose. Oily feel with sweet vanilla giving way to spice on the back end and a medium finish. Really enjoyed this as a sipper, even if it had to be out of a compostable plastic cup.

    Neck pour. Bright oak with brown sugar and a hint of orange zest. Taste tracks with the nose except maybe more pith than zest from the peel. Prominent baking spice with a long finish.

    Small bottle neck pour. Caramel on the nose with a hint of tobacco and green apple. Full body feel of a light sweet taste of vanilla with some char. Cinnamon spice and more tobacco on the back end. Medium finish eases away. Dual threat as a sipper and a mixer.

    Neck pour. Maraschino cherries and banana bread on the nose. Taste starts with sweet fruit then oak and spice. More spice to a short dry finish. Distilled by Barton for Costco, this tracks pretty well with 1792, but at a better value coming in at less than $25.

    Small bottle neck pour. Super easy, sweet, and rich. Vanilla and bananas from start to finish. This is a dessert sipper.

    Neck pour. Quite sweet and the rough edges I found from from the initial Pike Street expressions are largely gone. It is NAS vs. the original 3-year age statement, so this clearly has plenty of 4+ year in it. Butterscotch and oak on the nose. Roasted Minnesota State Fair sweet corn throughout from nose to taste to finish. Caramel and vanilla tastes pop at the beginning, but become very light with a hint of corn chips on the back end. Medium-to-long finish of corn cob and pepper. This one will be in the daily rotation for awhile.

  • Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style

    Neck pour. This is the grown up version of the lower proofs that first got me interested in Old Forester. Sweet caramel aroma and front end with some oak and light vanilla. Smoke and pumpkin spices add to the taste. Medium-long finish of warm spice.
