Wonderfully fruity, enchanting and robustly explosive nose.Pleasant aromas fill the room from a modest pour in a small glass pinch bowl; my favorite mezcal drinking vessel. Truly intoxicating, mezcal smells like nothing else! Little wisps of funk and smoke float about. On the palate: it’s smooth and crisp, slightly lighter body than I’m used to in a mezcal. Tropical fruit and herbaceous notes swarm the senses, with very light roasted agave sweetness and mint rolling in while sour citrus candy and herbal tea notes arrive and round out the profile. Finish is smooth and medium length in the throat, as late glimpses of red radish and fresh garden mulch tie up the experience. Pleasantly smokey but not overly resinous like other Del Maguey offerings I’ve had. Can I even dare suggest...slghtly watery? Nah, nah, nah. It’s got so much going on that I feel that it was any higher ABV than 46%, the profile might be domineering and unbalanced. A wonderful, Espadin for daily consumption. 2015 bottling.

Nice, refreshing and clean tropical, vanilla and toffee aromas. Visibly, pretty light in color. The palate is very crisp and medium-light viscosity with slight fruity-sweetness, warming spices and tropical essence. This rum just thrusts my senses on to a sunny private beach with a calming morning breeze. However, it’s just way too watery and light in flavor to be rated higher. A good value in the $19-22 range, but I’d buy the Appleton Reserve blend or Plantation Original Dark over this.

Wyoming Whiskey Double Cask
Bourbon — Wyoming, USA
Reviewed March 26, 2019 (edited December 31, 2019)Wyoming Whiskey is absolutely my favorite go to bourbon. It’s an easy drinking, everyday soldier but still robust enough with nice sweetness, black tea, herbaceousness, vanilla, caramel and spices. The barrel char notes are clean and superb with the slightest bitterness rounding out the profile. So very smooth! This Double Cask, 100 proof version is just on another level of pure splendor. It’s not only more of everything but fantastically fruity, a touch more sweet and surprisingly even smoother than the std 88 proof version. The sherry finish shines through and adds a ton of depth but isn’t for every whiskey drinker. I tend to love sherry finished whiskey and this is my favorite... by far! First bottle I bought was $55 and now the price has climbed to $62 because of the growing scarcity. This is one of those whiskeys that you sip and you sip and you sip some more, with good friends or by your lonesome self. It doesn’t matter..,it’s just f’n delicious. -
Not surprised but very sharp alcohol on the nose with almond, vanilla and spicy hints. To be fair, we should all know, this is not a sipper. It’s in a special class. However, pronounced alcohol burn with light brown sugar sweetness, vanilla and oak and a little earthy-nuttiness in the mouth. Great for tiki floats but I use it for seasonal fruit liqueur infusions, most summers. Keeps the ABV from getting too low and makes quick work of the maceration process. I just blend it with mellower counter parts. Usually the only 151 overproof spirit other than Everclear on the shelf but this adds a little bit of flavor and is grain free. Also tends to go on sale during the summer months.

Was pleasantly surprised by this offering. Mild and fruity nose with vanilla, herbal and malty touches. Very straightforward and rounded on the palate but not dull. Nice sweetness from the PX casks and is extremely smooth. Fruity and slightly sweet and grassy with warming spices, herbal tea and gentle oak backbone. Many people in the tasting party also commented on how smooth and drinkable The Sexton was. PITA, but beautiful bottle design. Definitely going to be a great daily sipper. Good job on this whiskey at a great price.

Not much nose, a little biscuit and grassy tones. Thin and watery mouthfeel and flavor. Touch of sweetness with light fruity and herbal tea notes, a little heat on the finish. My first thought was “Is this half whiskey and half neutral spirit?” Not terrible but not in any way, what I’d expect from a UFC fighter. Extremely light and dull but approachable for the newb or weak palates.

Pasote Tequila Blanco
Tequila Blanco — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed March 4, 2019 (edited August 23, 2019)The aroma of this tequila is intoxicating. Instantly reminded me of a hot August day, right before a fierce thunderstorm rolls in. The smell of the mineralality from the hot earth, grass and paved surfaces. The sharpening magnetism and welcome break in the humidity as the breeze kicks up. I can almost see the distant haze over the cornfields loosening, the darkening skies approach closer and the thunder cracks rumble louder and louder. Superb use of the rain water in the distillation here. Very smooth and inviting nose with wintergreen, vanilla, citrus peel and slight vegetal notes rolling in. The body is smooth and velvety with a little added viscosity but remains very crisp and refreshing. The palate is rich with the above characteristics however, adds a touch of luxurious sweetness with hints of caraway, white pepper and black olive arriving late. Very approachable to even the newest Blanco tequila drinkers and very unique and robust for the seasoned connoisseur. A delicious and welcome addition to the Blanco market that is truly worthy of the modest price. -
Absolutely delicious. This is a unique experience and not an every day sipper or go to whiskey. Every time I pour a nip, the first sip always gets me. A little clearing of the throat is needed. This is a well done sherry finish, and it’s absolutely just me. It initially catches me a bit off kilter, as if I’m overly confident and what to expect. Then, wham... a little dry, flip-flop gets me right in the corners of my throat and then a little tickle let’s me know, I’ve been foolish...again. It’s like a renewal of experience every time. I always think I know what to expect however, my palate memory is always reset . The sherry cask finish is very pronounced here. But it doesn’t deter from the overall package you’re getting. This is a well crafted spirit and truly, an experience. Smooth, robust and very delightful. The sweetness only slightly lingers on the lips and just makes you want more. This is one of those selections you can whip out when you’re bored or you just need a total reset of everything you’ve been sampling or think you know. $69.99/750 ml and usually sold out for a reason.
