Highland Park 18 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed October 3, 2018 (edited October 25, 2018)I understand the fuss and love for this dram, though Highland Park continues to be a bit of a miss for me. It has a really great nose, but the palate is a bit less complex without any of the full bodied bold flavors I tend to prefer. I’m left wondering if maybe a higher proof version might hit those notes. Certainly good enough to keep trying Highland Park bottlings, but not good enough to actually buy this bottle. Beautiful maritime smokey nose with rich notes of leather and tobacco and an almost peanut buttery creaminess. The palate is creamy with muted notes of leather and cacao. Faint hints of a maritime or slightly medicinal iodine peat hang in the background. The finish was quick with just a bit of “sweet belt leather” to quote my wife.
