Tried this initially at my fiance's brothers house and fell in deep love with it.
Since then I was able to get one bottle from a fellow KC Whisky Guild member, then my fiancé was able to score two more bottles while out of town on a business trip. Nice surprise he brought home to me.
Appearance: Dark brown simple syrup, oily from sweetness with rings around glass.
Nose: Candied sugarplum, vanilla, port wine, cherry, slight bit of warm cinnamon, brown sugar.
Mouthfeel: Thick and creamy, warming.
Flavor: Warm hugging slight heat, creamy vanilla, red wine, fruity flavors of plum, cherry, with a light rye taste. A little smoky and oaky but not overbearing - this totally leans to the sweeter side and is like a dessert. If you do not like a sweeter profile - do not select this one as while it is a Rye the rye flavor only peeks out a bit and is not too strong. Some other flavors that stand out are graham cracker, pepper, milk chocolate, and mint.
Finish: The finish tends to be on the short side - at least any stand out flavors in the finish but there is a background that is lingering and sweet, sticky, creamy, and just a little minty with a slight chocolate note.
Conclusion: I absolutely love this and could appreciate a pour nightly before bedtime, or as an after dinner dram with dessert. Okay who am I kidding? I could drink this all day every day!
It is such an easy sipper that one could get in trouble with this one!
Keep in mind I do love the sweeter flavors in my whiskies so this gets nearly a 5 star rating coming in at 4.75 and for under 50.00 (most places) it is well worth it!
