Reviewed July 15, 2020This is only my second French bottle and I have to say it is significantly better than the Bastille blend I tried several years ago. This is a non-peated blend of whiskies from three regions of France. I’ve struggled to come up with clear tasting notes on this one because there is the added dimension of communicating its unique character. Saying that it has notes of fruit, wood, etc. I don’t think really captures what Bellevoye is like or it’s potential divisiveness among drinkers of Scotch, Irish, or American whiskies. For me, it conjures a seaside picnic of sliced pears, moldy cheese, and sardine tarts. In short, it’s French. -

Reviewed March 21, 2019 (edited March 22, 2019)Nose: Toasted marshmallows, vegetable funk, dried wood, old dusty leather, dried apple rings. Taste: dried apple rings again, slightly sweet, takes a turn towards the dry wood funk and slight sour. Adding water or ice brings the sweetness up and hides a bit of the vegetal notes. Was hoping to like it a lot more than I do, was even will to deal with the vegetal notes I know were coming if there was more behind it but this is really it, some sweet candy notes with a lot of funk. At least the bottle looks great.
