Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 12 Year

Apple, honey, orange peel, and dark fruit underlie some minty chocolate. The palate is thick and sweet. The red apple is quite forward, bringing along cherry. The apple ditches the cherry fairly quickly to hang out with sweetened cereals and a bit of walnut. The mint joins in as the apple swings back, bringing along a creamy blend of berries and a nice, round, smokey finish. The finish lasts a decent amount of time as it plays through the apple, darker fruits, and walnut on a loop, held together by the lazy smoke.

Malt and sweetness on the nose that show up in the tasting. I get malt, cherry, and dark chocolate. I’ve enjoyed sipping this late in the evening.

My first port-casked scotch. Yummy port notes throughout the nose and palette. Raisins and buttery sweetness lead to bright baking spices and then a sweet and tannic porty finish.

Took a 50 ml bottle with me on a flight for a nice treat. I think the port finish on the base Glenmorangie is a fantastic addition, filling in the weaknesses of the light and simple 10 year to add richness, depth, body, and provides what is still a relatively unique profile even with the myriad of new options on the market. Not a complex pour to be analyzed, just a really nice, approachable and affordable pour is dessert in a glass. Slainte!
