Knappogue Castle 12 year was my first Irish whiskey purchase. I had shots of Jameson at bars but this was my first bottle. I remember being pleasantly surprised when I first tried it and I think it still holds up well today.
The nose is fruity with green apple and banana. On the palate I get peaches, cereal notes and oak. It is a little sweet, but not overly so. The finish has good length with little burn and has a touch of spice.
At $40 or so this is a good value Irish whiskey. It may not be as good as Redbreast, but few Irish whiskies are. It also works great in cocktails. At this price point, I dont think you can go wrong with this one.
