I feel like the betrayer here. Michter's US-1 is one of the first Whiskeys I purchased as I was finding my way into the hobby. There was a time I swore my then non existant reputation on this sure fire glass of fine not quite bourbon but whiskey. Back then I had 3 or 4 bottles to my name and I held this up as the gold standard of flavor profile. Amber and clear with no sediment and some skinny little legs. Sweet with just enough proof to be there but not so much you can't taste or smell anything. THe body wasn't too light but not too viscous with a smooth, creamy, and round mouthfeel. There are parts of this whiskey that from sip to sip will appeal to me more than others. For instance its a sugar bomb. This is straight up vanilla sugar cookie and there isn't a lot lingering afterwards to make you hesitate to keep on sippin. On the other hand I don't want to say I have outgrown that one note wonder because its a good fucking note but I like a sheet of music these days.
Michter's US-1 American I owe you for openining the doors to great Whiskey for me and you will always be in my heart however this review is written on the last pour from the last bottle im probably going to buy. In the end I want more from a pour but if I had a new friend wanting to get into whiskey I would recommend you in a heartbeat.
Bye old friend. I need shelf space.
