Nose: caramel, vanilla bean, black cherry, a little bit of oak
Palate: cherry and vanilla dominate, sweet caramel, distinct roasted nuts
Finish: peppery spice, brown sugar, dark fruits and a lingering smoky oak
Unsurprisingly the high proof really shows through in the hotness and chewy texture, a decidedly different experience from the 1910 but with the same sweet cherry notes. ( I have yet to open the 1897 but expect more of that delicious cherry) A very good high proof bourbon that can still be found on shelves despite the lack of age statement, it drinks more like a 100 proof.
