Tullamore D.E.W. Cider Cask Limited Edition

Sweet

Nose has hints of vetiver and orange zest. Palette is a bit harder to pin-point, but on the tail I’m finding a strong sense of golden raisin. If I didn’t know this was from Tullamore, I certainly wouldn’t have guessed it.

Thanks to @The_Rev for providing a generous pour, I got to try another Tullamore Dew. So far, I’ve had three: loved their 14 yr old, wasn’t fond of their Rum finish, and this one sits nicely in-between. The nose is weak, but the palette is where all the action takes place. The cider provides a nice crispness to the underlying sweet notes; a faint hint of fall...too bad I’m having this in the rainy balmy 85 degree NJ weather. Interesting experiment. Thanks @The_Rev!

I’ll be direct - this is hella good. Tullamore has been doing some exciting cask finishes; their most recent, the rum cask finish, is quite enjoyable...but not on this level. The combination of the base whiskey’s smooth, honeyed, fruity, and lightly spicy character with the slightly tart, round cider works perfectly. I hardly even noticed that the ABV is only 40%; there’s a satisfying richness present, with hardly any spirit bite. For $40/liter, this is a great find and probably the best whiskey I’ve had from Tullamore.
