WT101 SWA 7/9/17
Verified by looking at Bottle, that the expression of Wild Turkey available on SWA is 101.
Was listening to the Podcask on 5 Dark Horses and 101 was Will's #5 choice.
The burn is appropriate for a 101 proof. It is there, but not overly intense nor overpowering for my palate. The viscosity is a little light, guessing it is chill filtered. Color is that of an average 4-6 year.
Flavors: a bit of smokiness on the front end. Mellow light corn that is devoid of the vegetal qualities one might expect with a common class, in-flight brown spirit. A slight over-roasted nuttiness accompanies the traditional Bourbon caramel notes on the finish, tie back to the smoky hints that stood out just enough to be noticed at the start.
Nose: Not bad, but nothing in particular to tease the palate in a good way either. I could nose this without being compelled to taste it.
In-flight conclusion: if I'm in the mood for something different than I normally drink on the ground, this is a good chance to sip on JD and remember how unique it is amongst American whiskies. However, if a nice, classic Bourbon sound good, I can tip my hat to Mr Kehlerhers' tastes and an airline that has made value a mission and trade my coupon in for a Dark Horse, the Wild Turkey 101.
