So here it is the final number in the Macallan number series. Each year Macallan picks a different color for their release and the colors of the series are 1-Brown, 2- Orange, 3- Yellow, 4-Green, 5- Purple and final number 6-Blue. It seems to me that Macallan was trying to make themselves their own infinity stone bottle selection, but decided to change one color, brown instead of red for number 1, so as to not get sued by Marvel for stealing their color selection. So now that I am about to finish my quest for trying every infinity bottle, here’s hoping for some super powers after tasting or better yet maybe just some really great whiskey.
On the nose, the first smell is overwhelming me with spices of nutmeg, cloves, but the second whiff shows baked cinnamon apples, chocolate covered raisins, orange zest, walnuts, sour cherries and vanilla cupcake. So far so good, with one exception being a faint off-note hinting at sulfur. Then on to the tasting: a medium mouthfeel with no burn, sulfur, golden raisins, chocolate, cinnamon apples, walnuts, cloves, nutmeg, vanilla cupcake that finishes with a medium length and notes of cinnamon apples, chocolate covered caramel and golden raisins.
Overall this isn’t a great one, I like a lot of the notes in it, but there is a lot of spice and sulfur that overwhelm a lot of the flavors. I was hoping this would be the best of the series, but I feel like number 5 was my favorite. Plus, after the tasting and completion of the series, I tried to snap my fingers at the end hoping to rescue some of those Ardbeg barrels that met an untimely death to make An Oa that @ScotchingHard pointed out in his review. Sadly it did not work, maybe someone out there with all the infinity bottles can open their collection, pour them into a blend, take a sip and try it for me.

@Richard-ModernDrinking 😂, now I want the full collection to harness the power.
I think you misunderstand the power of the finger snap: it makes half the Macallan collectors disappear.
@Scott_E I love stories where someone just happened to be at the right place at the right time to pick a rarity up at a great price. Congrats and thanks for sharing.
@pkingmartin it was nothing but pure dumb luck. Right place, right time. Was on a parents weekend at my son’s college. Stopped into a liquor store, as I usually do scouting bottles I cannot find near me at home. Upon scanning, by its lonesome, a dusty brown box skips past my eyes. A double take and I discern the elusive Edition 1. At the time, the bottle was selling on the aftermarket for about $1000. I figure what do I have to loose. Bring it to the counter, ask the cost. The clerk looks it up and say “$99”. Sold. Much to my surprise. Felt like I was stealing it since they were unaware of the aftermarket price. Happy owner. Now @LeeEvolved had been searching high and low for the “lost edition” without paying ridiculous prices. Here I am, happy go lucky, and, as @PBMichiganWolverine says, fell ass backwards into it. And such is the story of how I became the owner of Macallan Edition #1.
@PBMichiganWolverine and the one I laugh the most, if I recall the story correctly, involves a youthful Pranay and, coincidentally, Macallan. 18 years of age and some Cola.
@pkingmartin they’re masters in marketing though…have to give them that. They now have a new bullshit scheme coming up where they’re partnering with violinists. They already did a scheme of partnering with photographers.
@PBMichiganWolverine I completely agree and need to hear the story of how @Scott_E fell into No. 1. I recently tried their Macallan Concept Number 3 and the best I can say is that it’s a very beautiful box.
@Scott_E two of my three most memorable whiskey stories involve you…1) our NYC tasting of the 51yr old Craigellechie , and 2) you falling ass backward into this Macallan Ed 1.
@ContemplativeFox this distillery, for me at least, has since over 10-15 years been relegated to “buy as a Christmas gift for a close family or friend who knows nothing of whiskey”. Their glory days are long gone, and now just over priced subpar whiskey that tries to use high end marketing to make up for its shortcomings.
Only Disney or Apple would sue someone for using the colors of the rainbow to differentiate 6 items. So have fun in court for even daring to use 5 of the 6, Macallan (Diageo). As for the whisky, Macallan having sulphur blows my mind. The whole thing about Macallan is that it's accessible to novice drinkers while being enjoyable by experienced ones. There really shouldn't be any sulphur here. And then the spice also being excessive... Thanks for the warning.
@PBMichiganWolverine best and luckiest $99 I ever spent. Probably my one and only break. Probably will never win a Powerball.
@Scott_E hey Scott…see below…just made your week 😀
@PBMichiganWolverine Thanks, I just looked up the price and it looks to be $3000+ now. I don’t know why someone would buy that over a Macallan 25 year for $500 less or many other better and cheaper options.
@pkingmartin love that Infinity stone comparison! Irony is that the worst one is Edition 1, which is the highest price as well
