Longmorn 16 Year (Discontinued)

Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland

Reviewed December 29, 2020 (edited May 9, 2021)
4.5
4.5 out of 5 stars
Finally tried the original to compare to the 2016 release. The two are almost identical, and if you’re not paying close attention, they can easily be mistaken as the same whisky. Without taking too much from Daniel from the Whiskey Vault, I honestly agree with him in that the same things are happening in both, but at different times. A lot of rich honeyed fruits, followed by a spike of spice, finishing with floral and more butterscotch sweetness. Also I must say, the original is a little hotter than the new one, but they’re the same proof. Might be stoned to death for saying this, but I like the 2016 release JUST slightly more than the original. Both are phenomenal and are the furthest from being disappointments by any means. For me, the sharp peak happens a lot sooner upon intake and explodes with richness, and honestly I kinda dig that a little more than getting it towards the end.
