Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland

Smooth, easy drinking, with several fruity notes. I have a suspicion that there is likely caramel colour added. As much as I love The Dalmore's history, this 12 year is not the best value at $100 per bottle in my opinion.
NOSE: Poached pears, mandarin oranges, apples, apple pie, toffee
PALATE: Light smoke, peat, black pepper
FINISH: Lingering peat, sea salt, dried cherries, oak, marzipan
Rating: 82/100
Grade: B-
Not-too-bad - no major flaws, worth tasting.

@MaitoMike those are definitely two good ones to start. I’d add Wild Turkey (101 preferably) and Evan Williams Single Barrel. I’d throw a wheated mashbill in there as well like Makers Mark (101 if you can find it). Any of these can be had in 50’s, 200’s, and 375’s if you don’t want to go for a 750ml purchase and will get you a start on which flavor profile you prefer.
@BDanner I haven't explored the world of bourbon much, but I'd love to start with a straight bourbon that's reasonably priced. Any thoughts and recommendations? I've on my list Buffalo Trace and Bulleit.
@jonwilkinson7309 it does get iffy with other American whiskies. As long as they don’t label it as Straight a small percentage of color/flavoring can be added.
@Milliardo It is indeed permitted in Scotch, and most whiskies that don't have added coloring are noted as such on the label. Bourbon, by law, is not permitted to have any additives, including added coloring.
Is adding color allowed within the definition of “scotch whiskey”? I know that’s a big problem in the bourbon world but am still leaning about scotch
