Everclear 190 Proof
Unflavored Vodka — USA

Nose - astringent grain, bitter herbal notes, black pepper, high ethanol burn.
Taste - sour grain, lemon pith, bitter herbal and floral notes, black pepper, high alcohol bite, finishing medium length with sour grain, black pepper, and assorted bitter flavors.
So I have a rule that I do my tastings neat or with a few drops of water at most. I’m breaking that rule on this one. Out of curiosity, I tried a sip at its full 190 proof, and I won’t be doing that again for a while. It’s almost comical how quickly the brain tells the body to reject it. I didn’t even try to swallow. You can feel all the saliva immediately wick from your mouth. In fact, this is rated as a food-grade household cleaner, but it can be sold in some states for consumption as well.
This isn’t good. Even watered down to 80 proof, it tastes extremely harsh and sour, almost industrial. It’s only distilled twice, as compared with most premium vodkas which are distilled at least four times. I’m sure this accounts for the general roughness of the entire experience. This is more of a novelty than a serious spirit to add to the cabinet, unless you want to relive your college days and whip up some jungle juice. I’d rather down half a bottle of Jim Beam Original than swallow one ounce of this at full strength.

@Zachary-Robbins I absolutely made my fair share of regrettable alcohol-related choices in college, but pregaming with double shots of Everclear is some next level tomfoolery.
I had a few friends in college that would pregame by taking 2 shots and chase with Red Bull. Every weekend. For at least 2 years. I don't know how they are still alive.
@jonwilkinson7309 Ha, you’re probably right. Sounds like another good use for Everclear. A single swig would make everything else taste better. It’s like the MSG of liquor.
Had you tried some of those vodkas directly after this one, is suspect the reviews would have read more like, "delightful, clear, and refreshing. Like cold spring water on a hot day. Creamy, fruity, with virtually no ethenol note to be found..."
@Danksy For science! And because I’m trying to find excuses to work through the bottle.
lol why would anyone try this neat??? XD
@ContemplativeFox I’ll give that a try. I think the mixer would likely need to be full flavored, as I feel the harshness of the Everclear may still peak through even in small volumes. Definitely worth exploring though.
@cascode That’s a great idea. What a way to add some actual dignity to what otherwise could be mistaken for drain cleaner.
@pkingmartin Haha I bet that’s not too far off from what the actual notes would be. And yes! Octomore will work wonderfully to erase the memory of vodka and Tide Pods.
@Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington 😂 I appreciate the concern. This one was definitely borderline. Luckily, I’ll be finished with the vodka series this weekend and back on the whiskey bandwagon soon enough.
I'm surprised by all of the uses people have for this :) I'd add to the list that if you just want something simple like juice plus booze, using this means you don't need to add as much water. I don't find myself wanting juice plus water, but if I did.
@ctbeck11 Use it to make chocolate liqueur. Dead easy - 300g of cacao nibs, 2 split vanilla pods, shove the ingredients into a mason jar and fill it up with everclear to about an inch over the dry ingredients. Give it 1 week, filter through cheesecloth and add simple syrup to reduce to 40%. Enjoy.
@pkingmartin 😂
@ctbeck11 don’t do the tide pods. I’ll do it for you. Nose: chemical with plastic notes and mild burn. Taste: WTF have I done, Burning, plastic, burn, chemical and death and foam. Finish: shit I might die with a lingering fuck!!!!!! note. Now let’s pour some more Octomore 11.1 and get those notes out there.
As much as I’ve enjoyed your journeys into uncharted territory I can’t mute the voice in my head shouting “INTERVENTION”. Like tide pods, bleach and the cinnamon challenge there are just questions better left unanswered. I guess what I’m saying here is, well, we care about you...
@PBMichiganWolverine @cascode I was wondering what to do with the rest of the bottle. Sounds like there are some good options. And yep! Fully covered at this time. No adverse reactions so far, but I’ll monitor closely over the coming days :)
@ctbeck11 oh my goodness, no. Just no. I use this to clean my electric shaver. I also used it to make homemade hand sanitizer, mixed with a bit of aloe. On a related note: how’s your medical coverage...all premiums paid up date ?
The only valid use of this as a drink is as the base for home-made liqueurs. 95% alcohol strips the oils from ingredients more effectively than 40% vodka. Other than that it should be avoided at all costs.
@WhiskyWitch No, come back. It’s all that vodka you see, making him do things. We must try to save him 😜
I think you should have to drink an once for giving this 1 star lol
@Ctrexman Yep, we were no strangers to this back in the day. It made for decent punch buckets, and it was always fun watching people’s faces as they tried to shoot it.
@WhiskyWitch Tune in next week when I review Tide Pods!
I remember a buddy drinking this on his 21st birthday......that was a messy night
*Logs in* "ctbeck11 has tasted flask cleaner and gave it 1 star" *Logs out forever*
