Little Book Chapter 4: Lessons Honored

I’ve heard some great things about Booker’s Little Book series and my brother is always raving about them, so I jumped on this bottle when it came out, opened it with him and some friends then forgot about it until recently.
On the nose it starts off with freshly baked cinnamon rolls then some fruit of sour cherry, candied orange peel, before leading into dark chocolate covered roasted peanuts, cola, and finally those barrel notes of leather, dusty oak and barrel spices with a medium ethanol burn. The taste starts with a medium mouthfeel of creamy peanut butter caramel rice pudding, then cinnamon rolls with those fruits of sour cherry and candied orange zest, again leading to dark chocolate, barrel notes of leather, dusty oak and barrel spices before a medium to high ethanol bite. The finish is medium length with cherry cola, caramel peanut butter rice pudding, leather and lots of barrel spices lingering.
Overall, this has a lot of nice flavors in it and I like the addition of the rice whiskey that gives me this rice pudding flavor. I’m happy that I got to try this and drink with some friends but wouldn’t chase another bottle.

@Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington I just poured some next to a Garrison Brothers Cowboy and they are really close now. I think all the oxidation really opened up more sweetness and calmed down the burn. I’m bumping it to 4.5.
I think the opportunity to try this blind really helped me to appreciate it. The heat seemed more mellow and the fruit and earthy/leather notes seemed well beyond what I think of when I think Bookers. The noticeably oily mouthfeel makes me want to seek out brown rice whiskey to see if that theme continues!
I need to get some Bookers/Little Book soon
@ctbeck11 That would be a very interesting tasting. I haven't had Chapter 4, but I'm sure brings the heat. The Beam Brown Rice does not (far more barrel oak and vanilla, no cinnamon), so it would be interesting to see if there's still common thread from the brown rice.
@pkingmartin Absolutely! I have a sample of JB brown rice whiskey from @jonwilkinson7309 that I think would be interesting to try before revisiting it. I bet the brown rice component in the Little Book would shine through once I have the chance to dig into that one.
Great review... have to say I really dig this Chapter the more I drink it!
@Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington Yes, my first few sips were fire on the tongue until I got acclimated to it. It is softer than normal Booker’s as I had a Boston Batch next to it to compare.
@ctbeck11 I can bring you a sample if you want round 2? I’m half a bottle in so due diligence was had for me.
Did this bring the typical Bookers heat or happen to be mellowed a bit? I always love Bookers for its thick, rich sweetness but the fire... it burns, burns, burns.
I had this at a restaurant a while ago and remember liking it, but wasn’t able to do my due diligence with it. I thought there was something extra from the brown rice whiskey which was interesting that I couldn’t quite put my finger on.
