Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine Original

There is no such thing as bad whisky - however, this Ole Smoky is 'moonshine' and there is always an exception to the rule. Lurking insidiously in its understated jar, the spirit attacks the nose with buttered popcorn, hints of laundry and biting ethanol. The first sip sets your palate on fire, followed by corn sweetness, nail polish remover and something bitter-herbal. Raging down the throat in a fury, it settles in the stomach like a stone, while Simon & Garfunkel are singing 'Hello heartburn, my old friend'. I think this firewater merits a new rating category.

Might explain why they specialize in offerings such as "Banana Pudding", "Some Beach", "Mountain Java", "Butter Pecan", "Sour (insert name of a fruit, any fruit here and they make it)", etc.
@PBMichiganWolverine I absolutely agree. If you are only waxing poetic about the nose and palate of your superior Single Malts, it is easily to get detached from your baseline. Every now and then, I need something extreme or different, and although I would certainly not buy a bottle (or jar) of this, it was a fun challenge.
@Slainte-Mhath an old college friend once told me that every once in a while you need to date someone trashy and despicable, just so you know to appreciate and respect the good ones.
Additional comment: I never review whisky with the intention to bash it into the groud, but after a long session of high-end Scottish malts, I needed something entirely different. I knew about Ole Smoky's reputation and was 'lucky' enough to receive a generous sample. Let's put it this way, it was a one-off experience.
