I had the chance to drink this extraordinary whisky on our honeymoon. The unique bottle and packaging immediately made a good first impression, so I ordered a dram. This special occasion called for a special whisky.
Nose - As a coffee aficionado, I was immediately attracted by the welcoming notes of roasted coffee beans and dark chocolate. It is also very fruity (oranges and banana), sweet (vanilla, honey, cereal) and earthy (nutty and oaky).
Palate - The sweet and bitter notes dominate the palate. The higher proof is just perfect for this whisky and doesn't under- or overdeliver. The palate has a creamy texture.
Finish - Long and complex. Once most of the flavors disappear into the background, the flavors of oak, chocolate and coffee remain most present. Almost like drinking espresso. Nice!
A delicious whisky that has clearly been given the time to develop its special character. Just like two people in a marriage, it was given time to become the best version of itself.
Taking everything above into account, I can only conclude that this is a unique whisky that takes me back to the most beautiful moments of our honeymoon. So when we got back home, I had to buy this whisky for myself.
I may be biased when giving a final score, but that's perfectly okay. Drinking whisky can be an emotional thing. That's why this is my first and only 5 at this time of reviewing. Sláinte!

@ContemplativeFox not sure why the price drop…first one I’ve seen where the price has actually reduced from 6-7 years ago. Only guessing quality of casks or age, but hard to say unless there’s a side by side comparison I guess
@angstrom Wow, 14 sounds like a harsh assessment. I vaguely recall thinking this was probably stuff in the 15 to 21 year range with some younger chocolate malt and maybe a teaspoon of old juice. Looking at those numbers now, I guess it wouldn't be too shocking if the average age were around 14 though.
@ContemplativeFox - Also curious about the older version. I just finished my bottle of Signet. Well made, clean and unique. But so is Nectar D’Or. Would be an great $80 Scotch. Not $205. Box and bottle are exactly right for $200-500. Other reviews talked about a highly aged element…but nothing about this tastes older than 14 yrs. All my favorite reviewers rate this off the charts.
@PBMichiganWolverine I really enjoyed this last time I tried it a couple of years back. It was about the same price then as it is now (maybe somewhat cheaper then). I'm shocked that the price actually dropped since the initial release. Do you have any guess as to why? secondary pricing? younger blend?
@ContemplativeFox i had the first batch of this when it came out…was priced around $300 then. Was absolutely amazing. But that was 6 years ago…hoping they kept up the quality , even though (surprisingly ) the price is lower now
I was on the fence about buying a bottle of this. You might have just sold me.
