Poured neat. Initially the nose was a little underwhelming. This glass was ethanol forward with faint touch of sweet grains, vanilla and a pinch of ground cinnamon. A light scent of toasted marshmallow jumped out after the first sip. Flavorwise, vanilla, cinnamon and charred wood dominate the palate along with a boozey note normally found in younger whiskeys. There's an oiled leather characteristic that coats the mouth well and fades to a pleasant tobacco and woodsy finish. Overall it drinks a little hot for 93.7 proof and the flavors are very spikey and disjointed. I preferred this particular bottle over ice which rounded out the rough edges a bit, and it was even better as a base for an Old Fashioned.
