I’ve come to love the Makers limited releases. This one is no exception
The nose greets you with caramel, maple, oat and chocolate as well as some sour cherries and buttered popcorn. Yup, all familiar Makers territory. Reminds me a lot of RC6 in that it is so sweet and rich.
The palate is hot and oily. It hits with a blast of makers jalapeño heat and then the dry, brown tobacco becomes immediately evident alongside cinnamon, cherries and chocolate, maple, banana pudding and raspberry.
I’m a huge fan of this. The richness, the earthiness, the long finish. This is a rival to OWA 107 more so than CS 46 in my book and not as desert-like as RC6 but showcases earthy tobacco instead in a way that few other distillers can. Definite rebuy if I can! I’m between a 4 and 4.25 and will keep it a 4 unless time somehow improves it.

Totally agree with what is being said here. Makers is really hitting a stride with these new releases. And they’re doing it their own way, with a unique take on finishing. Most importantly, they are available and priced really well. I didn’t give them much thought before, but they’ve earned a lot of buys from me.
@BDanner and yet people would go full 1980s back alley knife fight over an $100+ bottle of OWA 107. Makers has come a long way though and this current direction really works for me as well!
Maker's has gone from an afterthought to near the top of my list of favorite distilleries in the course of a couple years. I rediscovered 46 a couple summers ago, both Cask Strength offerings are hits, the limited releases are truly special, and while I've gotten a clinker or two, most of the Private Selects I've tried are very good. Oh! And I almost forgot the delicious 101! They've really raised the bar for reasonably priced, easily obtainable Wheaters.
