KC 9YR (Longhorn Steakhouse Selection) featuring Rackhouse L
NOSE: Oak. Peanut Shell. Brown Sugar. Clove. Cinnamon. Orange Peel. Empty glass is all Oak
NEAT: Dry Oak. Peanut. Vanilla. Maple. Musty Hay. Warming Medium Length Finish with a lingering Musty Oak & Vanilla coating the palate.
SPLASH: A little water and you get a little Pink Bubblegum on the Palate.
VERDICT: Found this while traveling and can find nothing about it. I can find info on Single Barrel Longhorn selections, but this is the Standard 9YR Small Batch with a small sticker proclaiming “featuring Rackhouse L”. I’m anxious to get home and try this beside a regular bottling, as I believe it features a musty quality (which I love) that I don’t recall getting from regular KC9.

Fantastic story! My parents never drank much either and chances are "Old Grandad" was my first sip because it reminded my dad of my grandfather. I hated it then but have since fallen in love with OGD 114 for sentimental (and flavor) reasons. Cheers!
@Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington Oh, I'm quite sure it was a sneaked sip of Crown Royal from the Dining Room buffet and hutch. Neither of my parents drank much, but there was always a bottle of Crown, Jose Cuervo and Seagram's gin in that cupboard. When transitioned from red wine to spirits it was with gin. When I went from gin to brown spirits it was Jack or Crown over ice. The first Whiskey I enjoyed neat was a NC Craft Spirit called Defiant. It opened the door for me and while I recognize now that just about every whiskey I've had since is better, it is still one I keep around to sip from time to time.
Way to go! I’m sitting on a bottle of Offerman but worry that if I can’t taste the plaid that I’ll be disappointed. Curious what the first whiskey you ever tasted neat was? I can’t tell you mine - was something from underneath my parents kitchen sink. First purchased bottle might have been Glenfiddich 12.
@Anthology I’ve got a few I’m considering? Lag-Offerman Edition is leading the pack, but I’ve got a few others in mind and am also keeping an eye out for something new. I’ve been in a cigar mood this week, so I’m letting my palate recover before I review #300.
@BDanner Nice review! I was just about to comment and ask whether you realize that this is your 299th review but looks like @Benji-Robert beat me to it haha. So I’ll ask this instead - any idea or foreshadowing/hint on which dram will get the honor of this massive milestone (300th)? They say curiosity killed the cat but curious minds want to know. Maybe you can give a shortlist and we can try to guess which one. No Pressure 😉
@Benji-Robert Thanks! Wow...#300. It doesn't seem like that long ago that I almost screwed up and made Skrewball my #200!
great notes as always, excited to see your next is #300!!
