Midleton Very Rare 2016
Blended — Ireland, Ireland

The legendary Irish Whiskey, the Midleton very rare, has finally been tasted by this humble whiskey enthusiast. I never had it before because it is expensive, specially for an Irish Whiskey, which i don't usually choose over any Scotch; but i wanted to try this one for ages.
Midleton Very Rare is the fanciest whiskey this distillery produces, once a year. This distillery also makes Jameson and Redbreast, Irish super classics. This review is for the 2016 expression.
Bottled at 40%abv, golden color.
On the nose, quite amazing. Orange caramel, super nice. Pepper. Freshly cut juicy orange. Super citric. After a first sip it gave me chocolate milk, Toffee and fancy Caramel.
The palate mantains a great level. Incredible flavor of orange juice; Freshly cutted oranges; Chocolate and Creamy milk.
Super nice aftertaste, a little grainy and chocolate. There is this orange cloud everywhere in your throat and palate.
Overall, this is a clean, accurate whiskey. It is all about perfect oranges and chocolate. Aftertaste wasn't as good as the Palate and Nose, but still a beautiful dram. My score for it is an 88 over 100. Would i pay 300 euros to have a full bottle? I don't think so.

@PBMichiganWolverine [jaw hangs open, looks across room at wife... wonders about possibilities of giant fireproof doomsday bunker, takes sip and furrows brow]
@Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington no, dude, my collection got kicked out a long time ago. It’s now relegated in a temperature controlled little storage facility that I’m paying a small monthly fee. Yeah, first world problems.
@PBMichiganWolverine no home means nowhere to stash whiskey collection, approaching a catch 22
@ContemplativeFox i just saw there are 12 messages on this post! my take on it: it is not worth more than 200$ speaking flavorwise
@Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington @PBMichiganWolverine I'm liking this game :) I could pay my car insurance for a year for that money. And I enjoy not needing to worry about paying a pound of flesh should I end up in a collision.
@Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington I can pay 1/2 of my monthly mortgage with that. And I’ll take my home over this any day of the week. Let’s see how dry this will keep me when it’s raining outside...:-)
@ContemplativeFox @PBMichiganWolverine I think I could buy a Miata for that - and I would take a Miata over most whiskey
@PBMichiganWolverine @contemplativefox The current RRP in Ireland is €180 for MVR 2021. The MVR 2020 got a lot of attention due to its very limited release and very few bottles went overseas which may account for hyper-inflated prices stateside. As a result of the run on 2020 bottles the 2021 has got a big bump too. It’s weird because you can still find the 2019 release on shelves. Due to its premium branding and the year emblazoned on the bottle MVR is a fairly popular gift here to mark a celebratory event (births especially). In addition to collectors, I heard that lots of corporates bought them as gifts for staff in 2020 in lieu of company nights out/Christmas party etc
@ContemplativeFox that is an absolutely insane price. It’s the bat shit crazy collectors trying to get all the vintages, like what @1901 said. I have the Very Rare 2014 and 2017, which I bought for barely $120. I stopped buying after that because the prices went up.
@PBMichiganWolverine Holy cow! That escalated really quickly There's no way I can believe it's worth that kind of money.
@1901 I just checked the price of the 2020...over €1000 !!!!!! Just years ago, I bought these for barely $150
These quickly become more expensive on secondary market as collectors go mad for continuing their sequence year by year. There were so few of the 2020 released that it is fetching crazy money now.
€300 - good heavens! It's usually AUD$300 over here, which should be around €150. I absolutely love this whiskey but even at our price I would not buy a whole bottle.
@ContemplativeFox that price is more palatable—-but anything north of that seems crazy
@PBMichiganWolverine I saw the 2019 for about $170 a month and a half ago. I passed at the time because I've read mixed things, but I might be regretting that decision a tad now.
Is that how much these are—-€300?!?!!!
