Immediately after the pour, the nose and palate are dominated by peat smoke with just a hint of malty sweetness in the background. Once allowed to sit in the glass for about ten minutes however, the dram begins to open up. Herbal, heather honey on barley cakes along with salted seaweed is the essence of this oily dram - the peat smoke still present, but playing a supporting role. This whisky is surprisingly light despite its intense flavors, but this contrast lends the whisky an elegant balance.
