Nose - Dense bread pudding and gingerbread cake, molasses, banana bread, toasted caramel, and medium ethanol. This literally smells like a rich, sugary baked dessert fresh out of the oven.
Palate - Gingerbread and banana bread all the way, cinnamon buns, maple and toffee syrup, raisins and almonds, hints of leather and tobacco, and light ethanol. The finish is where it loses a smidge of a point. It is medium and slightly hotter than expected with chewy oak and bready sugars and a sharp spike of ethanol that quickly fades.
It has been a year since I had Jack Daniel's SBBP. It was 10% off in April at ABC, so why not see if it holds up? It does. Honestly, this is probably my single favorite whiskey on the shelf. I love ECBP, various Maker's Mark finishes, Knob Creek and Wild Turkey picks, and high proof Islays. It seems the floor of JDSBBP is higher than ECBP, while the ceiling of ECBP may be slightly higher. Now that they're the same price in NC, it's more justified to opt for JDSBBP over ECBP if the reviews for ECBP are middling (as is the case for B521). I'm a sucker for fresh gingerbread cookies and fancy bread pudding from a fine Southern establishment. This hits those dessert notes better than any bourbon I've had, and I'll no longer wait a year to buy another.

@Zachary-Robbins thanks for the heads up. I always try and pick something up with part of my July 4th bonus, but pickings are usually pretty slim that time of year. This will be the one this year.
@BDanner It's $5 off in July, may want to wait 2 weeks. The bottles at the store FYI may have multiple proofs to pick from.
Like I said, it’s on my list. Every time I think about picking it up, something shinier catches my eye. Your review does it, though. Next trip to the ABC, one of these is coming home with me.
@BDanner Wait you haven't? I'm shocked. The only stuff I've had as good as this is C919, B520, and a store pick Knob Creek 15Y. It's what I imagine Old Forester cask strength tastes like.
Nice review! Those gingerbready/banana bready walnuts notes were what I liked most about the JD Single Barrel. I haven't had the Barrel Proof version yet, but it sounds like it really ups the ante on those. Definitely on my list of things to try. Also...unlike the ECBP, this one is usually sitting right there on the shelf.
