Been sipping on this for a few weeks and struggling to find an accurate way to review it. This is my first mezcal, and as usual, decided on it based on community recommendations.
I’ll start by saying that it’s good and I’m enjoying it. There’s more smoke than agave on the nose. It’s a soft smoke, a bit fruity. Think more speyside peat rather than Laphroaig. It’s fruity and coating on the palate. I get pineapple, Chile peppers, raw green bean, and some olive oil. Finish brings menthol and a warming finish. Very nice.
I struggled scoring this. I like it and respect it’s craftsmanship, but I don’t love it. I’ll finish the bottle, but I much prefer a nice sipping tequila. Despite being both agave spirits, this is a long way from a blanco tequila.
Certainly try this and expand your palate. Not one for me long-term though. Cheers all.

@WhiskyWitch this is painfully insightful and accurate
@LiquorLonghorn hopefully it’s a wide peak at the top...like a table almost
@WhiskyWitch my 3rd favorite aroma...after burning campfire embers and fireworks
"Tire section at Walmart" is the universal mezcal tasting note. How you feel about that will determine if you like mezcal...
@PBMichiganWolverine it’s been open about a month. I’m suspecting the flavor curve of mezcal looks much like a standard distribution and I’m right at the top of the curve, about to head downward in quality.
@LiquorLonghorn I found that mezcal quickly deteriorates once that bottle is open. How did you store yours ? Maybe it’s in the storage
So, this is getting better as it oxidizes. More rounded and complex. Still don’t think it’s a rebuy, but a quality bottle nonetheless and I appreciate the craftsmanship.
The "savory meat" aspect of mezcal is something I'm still trying to figure out, as in "what is it" and "do I like it".
@ContemplativeFox no kidding! I'm enjoying this, but not as much as a good tequila. Any suggestions on mezcals that go in a different profile direction?
A LONG way from blanco tequila. Good choice for an intro mezcal though :)
