Ledaig 18 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland

Older peated whiskies are not necessarily better than their raw and spirit-driven counterparts - they are different. That said, there is a lot to discover in this 18-year-old Ledaig. On the nose, sooty and slightly sour peat smoke hovers over dry sherry notes, including red currants, leather and walnuts. Initially sweet and oily, the taste explodes with a punch of spices and peat, drifting towards rubber, grapefruit zest and burned coffee. Chili, licorice and lots of tannins dominate the long and pungent finish. An expressive character, but I do prefer its younger sibling.

@Slainte-Mhath Love the 30 and 35. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1KE4il4_q4 mike and did a comparison of the 30 and 35, we have individual reviews as well.
@dhsilv2 I recommend to try the 30 or 35 yo Caol Ila of Diageo's Special Releases, they both rank among the best whiskies I ever tasted.
I need to try this 18. That said peated whisky under 25 years old is just not the same thing as the 25+ year. Well aged peat is just better...it's better than anything else on the market. When I think 500+ dollar whisky, it better be AGED and peated.
Additional comment: Ledaig is probably one of the most difficult Gaelic names to pronounce correctly (it means 'safe harbour'). LE-chick or LE-chaig are the most correct ones, according to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFo4taB0_Is
Additional information: This review is for batch no. 04 (new label). According to the master blender, it was finished in Oloroso sherry casks for about 2 years.
