I have a bone the size of T-Rex’s thigh to pick with Ardbeg. I had formally written them off for their special releases because all were quite overpriced and no better than the core range. Their entire special release business model is based on ridiculous names and over the top designs, with little to show for it but elevated prices. This one is no different.
It’s a 10 yr old with a bit more smoke. Save your money and buy the 10, Uigi, or Corry. This is just not worth the super premium. Taste like the 10…just a wee stronger

That's hown I'm feeling with many main variations of whiskey. Well said.
@Soba45 I’d be better off believing in fairies and dragons than a retailer ever giving up a bigger profit margin
I see they are lifting the tariffs on scotch for 5 years in the USA. Hopefully better prices for you!
@PBMichiganWolverine Agreed. The core three is plenty enough. No need to meander from the tried and true. Especially at markup prices.
Yeah the retailers i talked to thought it was stupid. I'll go to the free tasting and compare to Ugie and the rest for interest but 100% not buying.
@Anthology you’re right —the pricing is on retailers. They know they can get more, so they’ll push that line. But I would think there would be some guidance from the distillery marketing team—they would set some minimal threshold based on similar products, area, and previous history. You’re totally right—-what’s on Ardbeg is putting out a NAS “almost like their 10” whisky
@PBMichiganWolverine Do you think [pricing] is on Ardbeg or the retailers markup because of the market forces? I’m not so sure it’s a single culprit. Plenty of blame to go around. The disingenuous marketing and unnecessary tweaks + NAS outputs is 💯 on Ardbeg though.
@ContemplativeFox @cascode @Ctrexman I don’t get it …Ardbeg had got to know they’re doing this…simply making a very small variation and charging 3x more. But I guess why not do it…people still buy
@cascode Shots fired on the Corry
I only keep up with committee and new-range Ardbeg releases through tastings and samples from friends, and I’ve tasted nothing for a long time to make me want to spend the money on anything but the 10 year old or Uigeadail.
The nerve....Oogie for prez
Expecting anyone to beat the uigy or Corry is a tall ask, but I have to agree that I haven't been blown away by these either. At 2x the price of uigy, I've never been interested in seeking out a bottle.
