This is the 2018 "Las Presas" batch.
N: There's an interesting moderate richness and fullness here. It makes me think of vines growing in a jungle, carrying sweet water high up in a tree where just a little bit of the fragrant floor below can waft up to. I get dashes of this, that, and the other thing, but I feel like getting into those details will distract from my pretty decent vine analogy.
But I'll include them anyway. It's kind of full in a watery way with faint vegetal notes bordering on herbal with a little bit of sweet mint hard candy dissolved in it. I get suggestions of olive like somebody walked by with a martini 30 seconds ago. There's also something like a rich earthiness tossed into a tired barrel and then dumped out, but it's really faint.
P: Mint, sweet, spice, undercooked caramel. That evolves to include a bit of green olive brine. The mint does have that hard candy sweetness to it and it leads into the peppery spice. The undercooked caramel sometimes leads into agave, but it never gets far past the caramel flavor. Occasional faint hints of green banana, green pineapple, and moldy cardboard.
It's substantially more complex than Ocho Reposado El Bajo 2018, but also certainly more challenging. I certainly prefer this.
F: A mellow, balanced finish. It has some remaining stewed agave and tropical fruit sweetness mixed with some super mellow wood on the earthy side. A clean water presence.
- Conclusion -
I like the complexity and funkiness here, but that moldy flavor is a bit much and it becomes a bit numbing too. I started off thinking that this was substantially better than the reposado, but I'm less sure now. I'm torn between a 15 and 16. Considering how challenging this is and how quickly its flavor flattens out, I think I need to go with a 15.

Great review. I’ll need to pull these off the shelf soon and do a side-by-side. I poured the blanco a lot, but only a few times with the reposado and añejo.
