Pleasantly surprised by the taste of this whisky.
Completely different from what you would expect, obviously the big missing piece being that it’s unoaked so there is no flavour coming from the oak which gives it that flavour we all love, and the colour being completely clear, almost feel like you’re having something other than whisky.
(Gin , Vodka, etc.)
However, having said that, I enjoyed the flavour of this unoaked whisky, it was different and refreshing to see something different as well. It wasn’t my favourite taste profile but it’s not a bad whisky, not terrible to drink.
The first thing I noticed was it tasted a bit stronger than I expected it to be, almost like punching me in a the mouth, sweet on the palate as well, but went down a lot smoother than I expected but with much more of an ethanol forward base and lacked the balance and flavour you get from the wood barrels.
Had it been distilled in oak barrels rather than the copper pot, the flavour might have been a little more balanced, it also would have probably turned into a typical whisky flavour profile and I think that was the point Kilinger was trying to make with this bottle being distilled in copper in the first place, to be able to differentiate it from the others.
