Nose - toffee, buttercream frosting, tangerine, honey, strawberry, vanilla, pear, apple, grape, cinnamon, grass, lemon, black pepper, moderate ethanol burn.
Taste - apple, pear, honey, caramel, strawberry, lemon, vanilla, grass, plum, almond, allspice, clove, lemon, ginger, moderate alcohol bite, finishing medium length with apple, honey, citrus, and baking spice flavors.
After reviewing my records, I was surprised to find that the only Glenfiddich I’ve tried is the standard 12 year. Actually, I’m not that surprised. The general profile was always too light and fruity for my tastes. This is fruity, but it’s certainly not the light and boring Glenfiddich I’ve grown to ignore.
The nose holds the standard honeyed fruit basket, but there’s more intrigue and oomph. The palate is surprisingly sharp, with crisp strawberry and prickly baking spices leading to a reasonable finish that fades nicely without veering into sour or bitter territory.
I really like the inspiration behind this release. There’s a lot of quality in here, it’s blended well, and proofed correctly. While not amazing, I’d happily drink this any day, and that’s not something I could say after my past Glenfiddich experiences. Big thanks to @PBMichiganWolverine for the sample.

@Anthology @Soba45 the first batch was also puny in number. I think it was experimental.
@PBMichiganWolverine For some reason, I thought this PXX was a one-time limited release. Didn’t realize they released multiple batches. Glad I got the first one a few years ago but still “mad” about loss of rarity.
@PBMichiganWolverine Yeah 1st batch was very impressive. It really changed my impression of the brand. Sadly they reverted to type on subsequent batches. Not bad just nowhere near the great heights of the 1st batch
@Ctrexman I’ve seen that one in stores many times. And always walk right past.
@PBMichiganWolverine Hate it when that happens. Still, this was pretty decent and certainly improved on the Glenfiddich I’m used to.
I think this was from the 2nd or 3rd batch. The first batch was amazing—-I had a pour, and immediately went to buy a bottle. The 2nd batch just didn’t live up the 1st unfortunately
Well the Fire/Cane was one of the worst single malts Ive ever had so Ill dump a little too
@Ctrexman Yea I’m interested in trying the older ones. It’s not really fair for me to dump on the whole brand after only tasting the 12 year old. It appears to be going for the $75 ballpark online. I’m assuming that’s higher than the original retail though.
Sounds pretty good. I quite like the 18 and even the 15. Is this stuff big bucks?
