Bottle kill tonight on a store pick single barrel Buffalo Trace. I also saved a few ounces of a regular BT to contrast and compare so, It's actually a double bottle kill. The store pick presents all the classic BT flavors, caramel and toffee sweetness, smokey tobacco, and rich charred oak. The differences in the store pick and the standard bottle are so subtle that unless you're drinking them side by side you probably wouldn't notice. Granted, I'm sure there's differences from barrel to barrel. I think the store pick is slightly more flavorful, with just a little hint if fruitiness, where the regular is a tad smoother. I've found that this, and other Buffalo Trace products seem to hold up well on ice, unlike some bourbons that seem to get more bitter on the rocks. I think Buffalo Trace is solid bourbon, and one of my favorite sippers under $30. My only complaint is that it's a little more difficult to locate here in Alabama, although it is much more readily available in other parts of the country.

Nice notes! The store picks I’ve had are often indistinguishable (or even a step below) with the exception of one that drank like a 10-12y bourbon. Never know what kind of luck you (or the barrel picker) will have!
