Found this at Total Wine and jumped on it as I am a total Balcones disciple. They take their standard single malt (which is pretty great) and finish it in freshly dumped Madeira casks from Texas based Haak Winery. This gives a deep ruby tone and a succulent aroma. Nose is bursting with dark fruits and berries. Blackberry, plum, blackcurrant present with malt and light ginger in the background. Palate is dense with the heavy dark fruits merging with the house malty peach profile. Mild barrel and baking spice support with a flash of tobacco leaf. Finish is long carrying the palate notes adding a bit of dark chocolate and drying oak. To give some perspective this is more earthy and shall I say damp than a bright sugary sweet sherry finish. Another home run for Balcones which at this point is not surprising. If you like their other single malts and happen to see this buy it. To quote Mike Damone "you wont regret it".....91/100.......I paid $75 for this its worth it

@soonershrink I saw the Pilgrimage the other day for $79 but didnt grab it
I wish I could get Balcones at all in Quebec. Balcones products seems to be appreciated by almost all the person I follow here and for the moment my taste is pretty similar to all of you . I just dont have the money for this "hobby" atm XD
Bottle kill: This stuff is a juicy delicious American single malt. Great marriage of Balcones house flavor and the madeira casks
This will help......just think of Salma dancing on that table while you drink this
Enjoy all your Balcones reviews. Planning to visit the distillery in a couple weeks and hoping to come home with one of these if I can find it, or maybe the Pilgrimage. Or both.
@Spirited_Away Yeah you cant go wrong with Balcones almost all their offerings are great
@Ctrexman just reading this now. Will definitely be on the lookout for those. They sound interesting. Need more whiskeys in my collection as well.
@Spirited_Away They have a wonderful single malt line and a corn whiskey line. Lineage is my favorite value whiskey on the planet
Cool review and has me interested in Balcones now. I've seen them at my local, but was unfamiliar with the brand. I think I'll have to check them out now after this review.
