I'm sorry - I want to love this, but I can't. I actually prefer the single barrel select at 47%. This is simply too hot for me. No other issue. The flavors are all here and ramped up, but it's just too much for my palate. I top out at about 110-115 and that's it - anything more and the flavors, while strong, just overwhelm my taste buds. I can handle a Maker's Mark special release, a Russell's Reserve single barrel, a Willett cask strength rye, but this one is just too much, kind of like the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof I tried a while back. It's good to know your limits. Maybe in a few years I'll love this, but for now it's going to be a chore to get through this bottle.

Nuthin wring with avoiding the high proof bruisers. Its more rewarding when you find a high flavor lower proof too...say Michters Unblended lol
Yes, I’ve proofed it down a bit and it becomes palatable to me, but also almost indistinguishable from the normal single barrel. For now I choose to look at this in a good way - it will save me a lot of time, money and effort if I know that 120+ proof beasts are outside my comfortable drinking tastes.
IMHO this is kind of like Ardbeg: it's intense and many love it for that reason, but it also keeps plenty of folks who are fans of similar products away. For me, the key is that regular JD SiB is too low of proof to capture the great flavors, but it might not need to be the full 60+%.
Yep, this is one spicy meatball. Try adding a few drops of water to proof it down a bit. Depending on how much you need to add, it might make more sense to stick with the Single Barrel Select.
