Nose - earthy mint, molasses, vanilla, butterscotch, spiced apple, cinnamon bark, allspice, agave, floral notes, mild to moderate ethanol burn.
Taste - sour apple, spearmint, black pepper, molasses, vanilla, butterscotch, ginger, cinnamon, clove, allspice, cherry, moderate alcohol bite, finishing medium short with spearmint, ginger, molasses, and baking spice flavors.
My Panama-Pacific experience comes to an end with their 23 Year, the oldest expression they offer. The nose is rather similar to the younger offerings’. Molasses, butterscotch, mint, baking spices, and an interesting agave note that feels a bit out of place. The palate is unfortunately still thin and watery. And there’s a sour apple note that alludes to some overdilution.
Honestly, all three Panama-Pacific expressions are fairly close in quality for me. The 15 and 23 were marginally better than the 9 Year, but not by enough to move the needle on my ratings. There’s a weird sour, minty toothpaste quality on the palate that’s slightly off putting. It’s a unique rum for sure, but just misses the mark for me. Another big thank you to @ContemplativeFox for the sample!

@PBMichiganWolverine It doesn’t taste 23 years old to me. Way too thin and watery, but that could be a dilution issue. It’s claimed that no additives are included in this one, so that could also explain the mouthfeel as well. At $55, I think it’s a solid value (even more if it’s an honest age statement), but I don’t think it’s particularly impressive. The expert rating is a bit of a headscratcher for me. I’d pick Doorly’s 12 over this any day.
This is a 23yr rum??! Wow...that’s old for rum. Wondering if it’s trustworthy, as in the oldest component being 23, as opposed to the youngest like whiskey
