Nose - baked apple, caramel, vanilla, floral notes, grass, musty oak, mint, peach, lemon, cinnamon, peanut shell, milk chocolate, mild to moderate ethanol burn.
Taste - sour apple, light caramel, cinnamon, vanilla, wet grass, peach, spearmint, cherry, lemon pith, mild to moderate alcohol bite, finishing medium short with sour apple, bitter citrus, and grass flavors.
The sixth of nine blind tastings has some fairly standard bourbon aromas. Caramel, apple, baking spice, and some grassy floral notes. The palate arrives with a blast of sour apple. There’s caramel, bitter lemon pith, peach, and a bit of cherry as well, but the sourness dominates the other flavors.
This is obviously a bourbon, and a rather young one at that. There are the beginnings of some nice aromas and flavors, but they need more time to mature and probably less dilution as well. So what’s in the nosing glass tonight? Heaven Hill 6 Year Old Style Bourbon. At $15 a bottle, this is a good value but not a great sipper. I’d like to do a side-by-side with my other value picks like Evan Williams BiB and Wild Turkey 101. I may like those slightly more than this, but it would be close. Thank you to @Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington for the generous sample!

@ghill40509 could be worse…we could be ‘investing’ in those Crypto NFT monkeys
@PBMichiganWolverine It's not so much the inflation creeping up as the secondary market insane pricing. I keep thinking it will get better at some point but must confess I am part of the problem as a bourbon hoarder in recent years!
@ghill40509 @Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington @ctbeck11 with inflation creeping up, I think not only will these all get harder to find, but more expensive as well. I’m sure the distillers and distributors will all cite worker shortages and higher prices
@Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington , 15 years ago, I could walk into several liquor here and buy a case of Elmer T Lee or McKenna BIB for $25 a bottle or less. Heaven Hill 6yr BIB white label was available until a few years ago at $12 and cases were to get. HH 6yr green is approaching allocation status, so yeah I feel the pinch. TW Samuels and JTS Brown still fly under the radar but for how long?. On the positive side WT 101 seems to be plentiful for a bit more. Haven't got my hands on the new Benchmark BIB by expect it to be pretty good when I score a bottle.
@Bourbon_Obsessed_Lexington Once my wife inevitably shuts down this lavish venture, I’m sure I’ll find refuge in some of those other value kings.
I think this compares pretty well to WT 101 (more bubblegum), EW BiB (more caramel), JTS Brown (more wood and cherry) and Bardstown BiB (maybe a bit more rye bread) but a blind head to head would be a solid and affordable adventure.
@ctbeck11 unless it gets smuggled out the it is only to be found on bottom shelves here in KY - sadly it is to the point of near allocation within the state but I always grab one when they emerge. I think @ghill40509 is also feeling the pinch. Not sure if his take i. The matter but Willetts Bardstown bottles in bond comes pretty close for a few $ more and I believe can be found outside KY (or stacked to the ceiling if any KY liquor store).
@ContemplativeFox @PBMichiganWolverine Yep it’s no doubt a great value. Any palatable bourbon under $20 a bottle is a win in my book. And it’s only available in KY, based on what I’ve seen in the other reviews here. Don’t know that positively though.
I think this is KY only ?
This one really impressed me. I put it neck and neck with WT 101 at a significantly lower price point.
