Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA

I consider Elijah Craig as a prototypical example of Bourbon, and a kind of a base in my mind from which other bourbons vary in different ways. This fellow distillery-mate shares a lot of similarity, especially on the front end. I do get a little sour orange on the nose with this one, and more peanut on the palate, but where this really varies from the EC profile is on the finish, which carries quite a lot of tannic oak. I don't know if this bottle is typical for this release, but the oak presence somewhat overpowers the other elements for me. I think this is good to very good, but falls short of great.

@soonershrink - Definitely prefer anything Belle Meade actually over this as well, even though I've rated them similarly. When the McKenna was $30-$40 here in PA it was a no-brainer. Never been able to get anything Belle Meade other than the reserve for ~$40. Most of the others are $65 in close-by MD.
@soonershrink also getting tougher to find at a reasonable price. Not sure why…nothing really outstanding about it
@soonershrink Also prefer Belle Meade Reserve over this.
After comparing with other bourbons in the cabinet, I prefer this over mini-unicorns Eagle Rare and Blantons. I don't like it as well as Four Roses Single Barrel or Russell's Reserve Single Barrel. I think this is a good buy at or close to SRP.
