Some things just don't go together well. Perhaps one of these are rum and coconut. For me coconut and banana are the flavours which can be done wrong very easily. Put in too much and it kills everything besides it, put in too little and you barely notice. This rum starts off coconut heavy and then goes into territories I never thought possible. Sour, bitter and sweet tastes swirl around my mouth like a moshpit, each of them fighting for recognition. The rest of the familiar rum notes are lying in the dirt unable to get up, completely destroyed by this coconut(ish) taste tsunami. With every new sip the fight gets heavier and at one point my taste buds break out in agony and plead to stop this madness. Perhaps this rum is not intended to drink neat. Perhaps it is intended for cocktails. Perhaps it's just me who is the problem. Whatever it is, this is undrinkable for me.
