2005 diageo special release. 6000 bottles. I got an ounce from jared. This is tasted neat.
Nose: honey, sherry, light malty aroma. Candle wax and toasted hazelnut. Later salty sea breeze. A touch of ethanol broke through later. Touch of citrus fruit
Body: full, explodes on the tongue like the nose just animates from 2D to 3D.
Palate: initial impression is there is a lot gong on. Smoky caramelized hazelnut with sherry, and honey on top. The taste really hold true to the nose and is great. No heat at all. A little light white pepper up front but so mild and it disappears so fast you almost miss it. But if I had to sum this up I’d say sweet caramel and smoke.
Finish: long, smoky and malty. Lingers forever … this is the perfect finish. The tastes like it noses and is wonderful. The smoky finish is terrific.
Note: I won some bourbon at an auction and got some fun 1 ounce samples as a surprise. I’m looking forward to this. No expectations. One sip and I knew this was really good. From the nose you really have no idea how long this is going to linger on the finish it just never ends.
